Problems solved by technology

The wavefront synthesis paradigm requires this behavior of the loudspeaker, but only considers the position of one sound: such a system cannot easily handle two different sounds with a precedent / consequence relationship

[0025] figure 1 Illustrated is a mixing station 100 of the type used for mixing immersive soundtracks in connection with post-production of a film. The mixing station 100 includes a projection screen 101 that displays a movie while a sound engineer mixes immersive audio on an audio console 120 . A plurality of speakers (eg, speaker 102) are located behind the projection screen 101, and a further plurality of speakers (eg, speaker 103) are located at various locations around the mixing table. Additionally, one or more speakers (eg, speaker 104 ) may also be located in the ceiling of mixing station 100 .

[0026] Personnel such as sound engineers primarily enter the mixing table 100 through a set of doors 112 . A second set of doors 113 to the mixing station 100 provides additional access, typically for the purpose of providing emergency egress. Mixing station 100 includes seats in the form of rows of seats, such as those containing seats 110 , 111 and 130 , which allow indiv...

Abstract

A method for reproducing, in an auditorium, audio sounds in an audio program commences by examining audio sounds in the audio program to determine which sounds are precedent and which sound are consequent (e.g., a gunshot and its ricochet). The precedent and consequent audio sounds undergo reproduction by sound reproducing devices in the auditorium, wherein the consequent audio sounds undergo a delay relative to the precedent audio sounds in accordance with distances from sound reproducing devices in the auditorium so audience members will hear precedent audio sounds before consequent audio sounds.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of priority under 35 U.S.C. 119(e) to U.S. Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 61 / 808,709, filed April 5, 2013, the teachings of which are incorporated herein. technical field [0003] This invention relates to techniques for presenting audio during a presentation of a movie. Background technique [0004] When mixing and editing the soundtrack of a movie title, sound engineers who perform these tasks want to create an enjoyable experience for viewers who will watch the title later. In many cases, sound engineers can impactfully accomplish this goal by presenting an array of sounds that immerse the audience in the film's environment. In an immersive sound experience, there are two general scenarios where a first sound has strict semantics coupled to a second sound in such a way that the first sound and the second sound must occur in sequence (e.g. within about 100mS of each oth...
