Abstract

Disclosed are a system and method to recover from a large out-of-control condition in a clinical diagnostic process. Upon detection of a large out-of-control condition, a CUSUM rule is designed to predict if specimen test data was produced during the occurrence of that condition. Specimen test data is re-evaluated and the CUSUM rule is applied to determine whether to accept or reject the test results. Upon completion of the re-evaluation, old test results identified as being invalid are replaced with the the new, re-evaluated results and the new results are published if publication did not occur previously.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] Not applicable. [0003] Statement Regarding Federally Funded Research or Development [0004] Not applicable. technical field [0005] The present invention relates to clinical diagnostic procedures and, more particularly, to systems and methods for recovering from large runaway conditions in such procedures. Background technique [0006] Clinical diagnostic laboratories employ various quality control programs to control clinical diagnostic processing to ensure the accuracy of diagnostic results. In the United States, Westgard is the well-known regimen, and there are others that are more common outside the United States, such as RiliBAK. Recently developed schemes based on patient data are also becoming widely used, such as the biometric quality control process described in US Pat. No. 8,099,257. [0007] Regardless of the particular quality control (QC) process employed, it is a common property of known clinical ...
