Embodiments of the present invention provides a bus information inquiry method and apparatus which are applied to a bus inquiry system. The method comprises the steps of: receiving inquiry request input by a user, wherein the inquiry request comprises identification of a bus line and an inquiry direction of the bus line, and the inquiry direction comprises an initial position of the bus line; determining a target bus closest to the user by a bus inquiry apparatus according to the user position and position of a bus driving in the inquiry direction corresponding to the identification of the bus line between the user position and the initial position; obtaining road condition information of the bus line, and determining predicted average speed of the target bus according to the road condition information; and determining and displaying the time for waiting the target bus to arrive the user position to the user according to a distance between the target bus and the user position and the predicted average speed. The bus information inquiry method and apparatus are used for providing the user with the time for waiting the target bus to arrive the user position.
