Abstract

A method is presented for determining the location of a specific wireless device performed in a network node connected to a plurality of remote radio head devices of a single cell. The method comprises the steps of: obtaining at least one received power measurement for each of a plurality of remote radio head devices; obtaining a schedule of uplink transmissions corresponding in time to the received power measurements, the schedule including information about what radio head devices are scheduled at what time the device with the transmitted information; and determining a location of the particular wireless device by evaluating at least one received power measurement with reference to a schedule portion associated with the particular wireless device. Corresponding network nodes, computer programs and computer program products are also presented.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates, in particular, to a method, a network node, a computer program and a computer program product for determining the position of a wireless device when multiple remote radio head devices are used in a single cell. Background technique [0002] When deploying a wireless communication network, there is a balance between coverage and capacity. On the one hand, some large cells can provide great coverage, but at the cost of reduced capacity. On the other hand, a scenario with many small cells yields better capacity and throughput, but may not provide desired coverage. Therefore, there is often a combination of larger cells providing adequate coverage and smaller cells providing better capacity. [0003] However, when cells become too small, wireless terminals moving in the network cause a large number of handovers, which incurs considerable overhead. Also, providing indoor coverage using many small cells, one radio base stati...
