Data collection and analysis system

A sensor network collects time-series data from a process tool and supplies the data to an analysis system where pattern analysis techniques are used to identify structures and to monitor subsequent data based on analysis instructions or a composite model. Time-series data from multiple process runs are used to form a composite model of a data structure including variation. Comparison with the composite model gives an indication of tool health. A sensor network may have distributed memory for easy configuration.

Speech recognition system having multiple speech recognizers

A speech recognition system recognizes an input speech signal by using a first speech recognizer and a second speech recognizer each coupled to a decision module. Each of the first and second speech recognizers outputs first and second recognized speech texts and first and second associated confidence scores, respectively, and the decision module selects either the first or the second speech text depending upon which of the first or second confidence score is higher. The decision module may also adjust the first and second confidence scores to generate first and second adjusted confidence scores, respectively, and select either the first or second speech text depending upon which of the first or second adjusted confidence scores is higher. The first and second confidence scores may be adjusted based upon the location of a speaker, the identity or accent of the speaker, the context of the speech, and the like.

Multicast transmission in a cellular network

The invention relates to a mechanism for performing multicast transmission in a cellular network. In order to enable establishment of resources only in cells containing members of the multicast group and to avoid congestion on the uplink channel, a multicast service notification is transmitted to mobile stations, thereby informing members of the multicast group of an upcoming multicast session. The moment for a response to said multicast service notification is selected in the mobile stations and a presence report is sent from at least one of said mobile stations at the response moment of said at least one mobile station. The presence report or reports are received within a radio access network, and radio resources are established for multicast transmission in a cell of the cellular network when the presence report(s) received in said cell meet(s) predetermined criteria.

Selective peak power reduction

The present invention provides a technique for reducing the peak power of a combined signal that has a first signal of a first modulation type and a second signal of a second modulation type. Based on the combined signal, peak reduction distortion is determined. The peak reduction distortion is configured such that, if applied to the entirety of the combined signal, excessive peaks throughout the combined signal would be reduced. However, instead of applying the entirety of the peak reduction distortion, a selected portion of the peak reduction distortion is applied to a corresponding portion of the combined signal to reduce the peak power of the combined signal.

Systems and methods to quantify and amplify both signaling probes for cdna chips and genes expression microarrays

The invention provides a series of reagent compositions and methods for making and amplifying novel cDNA based probe sets from RNA samples to improve analysis with gene expression arrays. The methods globally produce probe sets with common universal linkers at one or both ends, called WRAP-Probes, wherein the linkers do not bind to the target sequences and they can efficiently bind added reporters to the probes. The universal linkers are also designed as primer binding sites for copying and amplifying the probes, either linearly with one linker, or exponentially with double linkers. The capacity to globally and exponentially amplify the probe set by PCR is a primary advantage. Adding reporters by terminal linkers also improves quantification since each probe gets equivalent signaling. The invention allows expression analysis of small research, clinical and forensic samples to enable improved diagnostics, drug discovery, therapeutic monitoring, and medical, agricultural and general research.

Apparatus and method to achieve high-resolution microscopy with non-diffracting or refracting radiation

An imaging system employing a coded aperture mask having multiple pinholes is provided. The coded aperture mask is placed at a radiation source to pass the radiation through. The radiation impinges on, and passes through an object, which alters the radiation by absorption and / or scattering. Upon passing through the object, the radiation is detected at a detector plane to form an encoded image, which includes information on the absorption and / or scattering caused by the material and structural attributes of the object. The encoded image is decoded to provide a reconstructed image of the object. Because the coded aperture mask includes multiple pinholes, the radiation intensity is greater than a comparable system employing a single pinhole, thereby enabling a higher resolution. Further, the decoding of the encoded image can be performed to generate multiple images of the object at different distances from the detector plane. Methods and programs for operating the imaging system are also disclosed.

Fluorescence removal from raman spectra by polarization subtraction

A method for utilizing polarization as a scheme for fluorescence removal from UV Raman spectra collected in a standoff detection scheme has been invented. In this scheme, a linearly polarized ultraviolet (UV) laser interacts with a material on a surface or in a container. The material generates Raman scattering with polarization contributions relative to that of the laser. The material possibly fluoresces as well, but the fluorescence is generally unpolarized. By subtracting a scaled version of the perpendicular component from the parallel component of the returned signal both relative to the laser source polarization—it is possible to generate a spectrum that is fluorescence free and contains the strongest features of the Raman scattered light.
