Problems solved by technology

[0003] While hands-free computing can offer some benefits over alternative forms of input (e.g., touch), some voice-activated computing devices can be cumbersome to use
For example, while the user is still speaking, the user may not be able to determine whether the computing device has recognized the voice command, which may cause the user to hesitate and / or pause when providing voice input
Periods of hesitation and / or pauses in the audio data may cause bias in speech recognition techniques performed by voice-activated computing devices

Embodiment Construction

[0012] In general, techniques of this disclosure may enable a computing device to provide visual confirmation that the computing device has recognized a voice command for performing a voice-initiated action based on audio data (eg, voice input). The computing device may receive audio data when a user of the computing device speaks into a microphone of the computing device. When audio data is received, the computing device may output for display a speech recognition graphical user interface (GUI) that conveys visual information (eg, visual feedback) related to the audio data. For example, prior to recognizing a voice command based on the audio data, the computing device may present a graphical element within the speech recognition GUI to visually indicate that audio data is being received. For example, the graphical element may be one or more graphical icons, images, words of text (based on, for example, a transcription of received audio data), or any combination thereof. In s...

Abstract

The present invention describes a computing device that outputs an initial speech recognition graphical user interface (GUI) having at least one element for display. The computing device receives audio data and determines a voice-initiated action based on the audio data. In response to determining the voice-initiated action, the computing device outputs an updated voice recognition GUI for display having an animation of a change in position of the at least one element to indicate that the voice-initiated action has been determined.

Description

technical field [0001] The present application relates to methods, computing devices, and computer-readable storage media for providing visual indications of recognized speech-initiated actions. Background technique [0002] Some computing devices (eg, mobile phones, tablet computers, wearable computing devices, personal digital assistants, etc.) are "voice-activated" and are capable of recognizing voice commands based on audio input (eg, a user's voice). For example, a computing device may use a microphone to receive speech input (eg, audio data). Computing devices may use speech recognition technology to analyze voice input to determine commands (e.g., "search," "navigate," "play," "pause," "call," etc.) and thereafter perform voice-initiated actions associated with the commands (eg, provide search options, execute a map application, start playing a media file, stop playing a media file, place a phone call, etc.). As such, voice-activated computing devices may provide us...
