Abstract

A thermal defogging system and method for optical instruments is described. In one embodiment, a thermal defogging system for an optical instrument consists of at least the following: a main housing defining an aperture for transmitting an optical signal; a transparent element adapted to communicate with the aperture for transmitting an optical signal; the aperture is aligned with at least one side of the transparent element facing the external environment; and the transparent conductive layer covers an area at least as large as the optical footprint of an optical signal transmitted through the transparent element, wherein in response to power being applied to the transparent conductive layer, The transparent conductive layer generates heat which is thermally transferred to at least one side of the transparent element facing the external environment.

Description

Background technique [0001] Temperature differences between the patient's body, eg, oral cavity, abdominal cavity, etc., and the surrounding environment can cause condensation to form on the windows of the medical device. A medical device may be, for example, a scanning device, a collimator, an optical instrument, or the like. Condensation may interfere with the optical operation of medical devices. For example, condensation may cause changes in the optical signal (by causing light diffraction, refraction, etc.), which may degrade the quality of the optical signal, resulting in images with reduced image quality, such as blurred images. [0002] Accordingly, various systems have been developed to defog the windows of devices. For example, a fan or air pump can be used to blow air to defog the windows. The air blown by the fan may or may not be heated. However, for the example of a device where the device is a medical device, blowing air with a fan may cause discomfort due t...
