Embodiment Construction

[0014] In order to more clearly and concisely describe and refer to the claimed subject matter, definitions of specific terms used throughout the specification and claims are provided below. Any exemplification of specific language herein should be considered a non-limiting example.

[0015] A "system for the production of a radiopharmaceutical" is an apparatus configured to automate the synthesis of a radiolabeled compound suitable for use as an in vivo diagnostic agent. The system is suitably manufactured from pharmaceutical grade and radioactive breakdown resistant materials. A drug suitable for mammalian administration (i.e., sterile, non-pyrogenic) and for use as an in vivo imaging agent (i.e., the active pharmaceutical material is of sufficient purity and remains sufficiently radioactive to permit clinically useful imaging) should be obtained. Targeted system design for radiopharmaceutical preparation. Those skilled in the art of preparing radiopharmaceuticals will be ...

Abstract

The present invention provides a system for the production of a radiopharmaceutical including a radiosynthesis apparatus and a disposable cassette. The system of the invention includes a device that enables a position on the cassette to be freed for inclusion of an additional reagent vial. With the system of the invention a broader range of radiochemical syntheses can be envisaged using the cassette.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to the synthesis of radiolabeled compounds. In particular, the invention relates to methods for the automated synthesis of radiolabeled compounds, especially where those compounds are suitable for use in radiopharmaceutical preparations. Background technique [0002] Radiolabeled compounds for use as in vivo imaging agents are currently typically prepared with the aid of automated synthesis equipment (alternatively "radio synthesizers"). Such automated synthesis equipment is commercially available from several suppliers, including: GE Healthcare; CTI Corporation; Ion Beam Applications AG (Chemin duCyclotron 3, Leuven-Nouveau, Belgium), B-1348; Raytest (Germany) and Bioscan (USA) . Radiochemistry is performed in a "cassette" or "cassette" designed to be removably and interchangeably fitted to the device such that mechanical movement of the moving parts of the device controls the operation of the cassette. Suitable casset...
