Abstract

The invention relates to application of Metrnl in preventing and treating ulcerative colitis. According to the application, a DSS (Dextran Sulfate Sodium) induced ulcerative colitis model is established by using Metrnl intestinal epithelium specific knock-out mice and corresponding reference wild mice, and results show that the Metrnl intestinal epithelium specific knock-out mice are suffered fromulcerative colitis which is conspicuously more serious than that of the reference wild mice, the intestinal mucosa erosion degrees of the Metrnl intestinal epithelium specific knock-out mice are conspicuously higher than those of the reference wild mice, and a Metrnl protein can be used as a novel effective medicine for preventing and treating ulcerative colitis. The invention provides a novel method for preventing and treating ulcerative colitis, and in addition, since the Metrnl protein self is an endogenous protein of human bodies, the Metrnl protein has very small possible side effects onhuman bodies and is very high in security as a potential medicine.
