Embodiment Construction

[0031] The following is a description of certain embodiments of the invention, given by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0032] according to Figure 1 to Figure 3 The flexible abrasive member 10 has a substrate 12 in the form of a porous layer, which may be implemented as a wire mesh. The screen may be formed from a plastic coating coated with a metal such as nickel. A mixture of metal and abrasive particles and metal particles 22 may be deposited on porous layer 12 by electrodeposition. Thereby, deposits 20a, 20b, 20c, 20d, 20e, etc. are formed, which include metal and abrasive grains 22 embedded therein. figure 1A top view of the abrasive member 10 along the normal direction Z and on the base body 12 extending along the longitudinal direction X and the transverse direction Y is shown. Corresponding to a section along the longitudinal direction X and the normal direction Z, figure 2 shows the basis figure 1 A cross-sectional side view ...

Abstract

A flexible abrasive member (10) comprising a substrate (12); the substrate carries an array of deposits (20) with embedded abrasive particles (22), wherein each deposit (20) is provided with an elongated continuous structure mainly extending along a central trajectory (Ax) in the longitudinal direction (X) crossing the substrate; each structure comprises a protruding insertion portion (24) and a recessed portion (26) which are opposite from the central trajectory in the transverse direction (+-Y); the insertion portion of each deposit accommodated in the recessed portion of the former transverse deposit; and the recessed portion of each deposit accommodates the insertion portion of the next transverse deposit, so that each insertion portion and the corresponding recessed portion of the adjacent deposits are overlapped in the transverse direction.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a flexible abrasive member comprising a substrate carrying a deposit with embedded abrasive particles and to a belt, disc, sheet, cylinder, reamer or block comprising such a flexible abrasive member. Furthermore, the present invention relates to methods for manufacturing such flexible abrasive members. Background technique [0002] Such flexible abrasive members are generally known and can be used in various grinding or polishing operations. Such operations may include the treatment of stone, marble, or wooden items (eg, floors, furniture, etc.). Furthermore, processing of glass or the like is possible, for example for processing the edges of glass panels. Grinding or polishing processes may also be performed on metals (eg, aluminum, titanium, steel), ceramics (eg, tungsten carbide), composite materials, other rock types (eg, granite), and the like. Depending on the product to be treated, the flexible abrasive member...
