Abstract

The present invention provides a method and apparatus for identifying the center of a driverless vehicle navigation path. The method includes receiving a navigation map of a path connecting a destination point and an autonomous vehicle location point. The method also includes identifying a plurality of obstacle points along a boundary of the path based on the navigation map. The method includes determining a plurality of intermediate points on the path based on the plurality of obstacle points. The intermediate point lies on a straight line connecting two consecutively identified obstacle points. The method also includes discarding at least one of the plurality of intermediate points to extract a final set of intermediate points on the path. The method includes sequentially arranging intermediate points in the final set from the destination point to the driverless vehicle location point.
