Embodiment Construction
[0040] The present disclosure relates to systems and methods for facilitating steep final approach phases of aircraft flight. In a number of different embodiments, the systems and methods disclosed herein may facilitate the control of aircraft during steep approach procedures for aircraft (as compared to normal (i.e., non-slope) approaches conducted at classical approach angles). One or more of the aircraft's engines is using a low idle setting. In various embodiments, the systems and methods disclosed herein may also facilitate the use of anti-icing systems during steep approach procedures.
[0041] The classic approach angle (ie glide bank) for a final approach of a fixed wing aircraft is typically about 3 degrees from the horizontal. The ability of some aircraft to perform a final approach with a steeper approach angle may depend on the capabilities of such aircraft. In some cases, a steep approach angle may be considered to be greater than 3 degrees from the horizontal. ...
