Embodiment Construction

[0040] The present disclosure relates to systems and methods for facilitating steep final approach phases of aircraft flight. In a number of different embodiments, the systems and methods disclosed herein may facilitate the control of aircraft during steep approach procedures for aircraft (as compared to normal (i.e., non-slope) approaches conducted at classical approach angles). One or more of the aircraft's engines is using a low idle setting. In various embodiments, the systems and methods disclosed herein may also facilitate the use of anti-icing systems during steep approach procedures.

[0041] The classic approach angle (ie glide bank) for a final approach of a fixed wing aircraft is typically about 3 degrees from the horizontal. The ability of some aircraft to perform a final approach with a steeper approach angle may depend on the capabilities of such aircraft. In some cases, a steep approach angle may be considered to be greater than 3 degrees from the horizontal. ...

Abstract

Systems and methods to facilitate a steep final approach phase of flight of an aircraft are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method for operating an aircraft during a steep approach phase of flight ofthe aircraft comprises operating an engine of the aircraft at an idle speed associated with the steep approach type that is lower than an idle speed associated with a non-steep approach type capable of being executed by the aircraft. The method also comprises operating an ice protection system of the aircraft during the steep approach phase of flight of the aircraft.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates generally to an aircraft, and more particularly to a steep approach flight phase of an aircraft. Background technique [0002] Classical (ie, non-slope) approach angles for aircraft are typically on the order of about 3 degrees. However, some airports located in urban areas may enforce approach procedures requiring steeper approach angles to reduce noise, or due to the presence of obstructions such as buildings or towers. Landings at airports located near mountainous areas may also require steeper approach angles. Approach procedures for steeper bank angles may differ from those performed at classic approach angles and may require different control and performance considerations for some aircraft. Contents of the invention [0003] In one aspect, the present disclosure describes a method for operating an aircraft during a steep approach phase of flight of the aircraft. The methods include: [0004] During the steep ...
