Embodiment Construction

[0023] Disclosures herein are directed to methods for using phase modulation techniques to reduce EMI due to multi-element arrays of ultrasound transducers in devices for ultrasonic thermotherapy.

[0024] figure 1 An exemplary system 10 for providing image-guided ultrasound therapy to a patient is illustrated. The simplified illustration shows a host computer 100, such as a portable PC, workstation, or other processing device having a processor, memory, and coupled to some input / output device. Host computer 100 may include a display and may support user interface 110 to facilitate control and viewing of thermal treatment procedures.

[0025] The host computer 100 is adapted to be coupled to other systems and components through a computer interface connector 120 . Connection device 120 carries data and information to and from host computer 100 and may include standard or special electrical wiring connection cables, such as serial connection cables and the like. Furthermore,...

Abstract

A method for reducing electromagnetic interference caused by the use of multiple ultrasound transducers in an array, particularly inside the human body inside a magnetic resonance imaging apparatus. The electrical signals driving the transducers are shifted in phase relative to each other in order to achieve maximum shifts in the electric and magnetic fields caused by such signals and the transducers. The phase offset is dynamically adjusted in response to changes in drive amplitude and frequency in order to maintain optimal reduction of electromagnetic interference.

Description

technical field [0001] The present application relates generally to ultrasound therapy systems, and more particularly to methods for improving the effectiveness of ultrasound therapy by using phase modulation on electrical signals sent to ultrasound transducers to reduce the Transducer-induced electromagnetic interference (EMI). Background technique [0002] Ultrasound transducers have been used in ultrasound therapy systems to achieve therapeutic heating of diseased and other tissues. An ultrasound transducer array operating to form a beam of ultrasound energy converts sound into thermal energy in the affected tissue region or treatment volume, which subsequently induces a beneficial temperature increase in the treatment volume. [0003] In image-guided ultrasound therapy systems, the patient and the ultrasound therapy device are typically positioned in an imaging volume, such as a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) device, which allows for guided applicator placement, and i...
