Embodiment Construction

[0016] In the following, different exemplary embodiments will be described using a radio access architecture based on Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-A) or New Radio (NR, 5G) as an example of an access architecture to which the embodiments can be applied, however Embodiments are not limited to such architectures. It is obvious to those skilled in the art that the embodiments can also be applied to other types of communication networks with suitable components by properly adjusting parameters and procedures. Some examples of other options for a suitable system are Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) Radio Access Network (UTRAN or E-UTRAN), Long Term Evolution (LTE, same as E-UTRA), Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN or WiFi ), Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX), Bluetooth Personal Communication Services (PCS), Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA), systems using Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology, sensor networks, Mobile Ad Hoc Netw...

Abstract

The present invention relates to a device and method for detection of received signals. The proposed solution includes for a given number of modulation methods, for each modulation symbol, storing (300) information about adjacent symbols in the symbol constellation of the modulation method; receiving (302) a multiple-input multiple-output signal including modulation symbols in two or more layers as an input; providing (304) a hard decision of the modulation symbol of each layer; determining (306) a neighbor element of each hard decision; and for each hard decision of the layer, traversing at least some of the neighbor elements and evaluating (308) a cost function, and selecting symbols based on the evaluation and repeating this operation for each layer.

Description

technical field [0001] The exemplary and non-limiting embodiments of the invention relate generally to communications. Background technique [0002] Wireless telecommunication systems continue to evolve. There is a continuing need for higher data rates and high quality of service. Partly for these reasons, modern telecommunication systems such as fifth-generation 5G networks are migrating to millimeter wave (mmW) frequencies in search of wide spectrum access, ultimately enabling extremely high data rates. [0003] To achieve high capacity and data rates, multiple-input multiple-output (or MIMO) transmission has been investigated. MIMO is the term used for the method of simultaneously transmitting and receiving more than one data signal on the same radio channel. A base station or access point of a communication system may transmit using many antenna beams pointing in different directions instead of omnidirectional transmission. A user terminal may utilize more than one a...
