Embodiment Construction

[0033] The drawings and the following description illustrate certain exemplary embodiments. It will thus be appreciated that those skilled in the art will be able to devise various arrangements which, although not explicitly described or shown herein, embody the principles of the embodiments and are included within their scope. Furthermore, any examples described herein are intended to aid in understanding the principles of the embodiments and should be construed as not limited to such specifically recited examples and conditions. As a result, the inventive concept(s) are not limited to the specific embodiments or examples described below, but by the claims and their equivalents.

[0034] figure 1 V2V communication between vehicles in an illustrative embodiment is illustrated. V2V communication refers to a technology that allows vehicles 101-104 to communicate directly with each other via RF signals on the radio frequency (RF) spectrum without relying on a fixed communicatio...

Abstract

Systems, methods, and software for managing radio resources forvehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications. A geographic area is segmented into zones with a subset of the transmission slots allocated to each of the zones. The subset of the transmission slots allocated to each zone is partitioned into periodic transmission slots assignable to individual vehicles for periodic transmissions and special transmission slots reserved for special transmissions according to a contention-based protocol. A resource manager stores a mapping of transmission slots for each of the zones. When a vehicle enters one of the zones, the resource manager performs a slot assignment for the vehicle from the periodic transmission slots allocated to the zone, and transmits a notification to the vehicle indicating the slot assignment.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates to the field of communication systems, and in particular to wireless communications. Background technique [0002] Vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication refers to the wireless transmission of data between vehicles (eg, motor vehicles). One goal of V2V communication is to prevent accidents by allowing vehicles in transit to exchange position data, speed data, etc. V2V communications will play an increasing role in enabling a wide range of automotive applications and increasing levels of driver assistance and automation, ranging from alerts to help human drivers maintain a safe following distance to highway platooning and fully autonomous driving ability. Many of these functionalities involve time-critical information exchange and coordination, and require low-latency wireless communications. At the same time, the available wireless spectrum may be scarce, and efficient utilization of the wireless spectrum remains an is...
