Embodiment Construction

[0018] As can be seen from FIG. 1 , the lighting device generally designated by the reference numeral 10 comprises a housing 2 , reflector 4 , light source 6 and column 8 .

[0019] The reflector 4 is substantially square in plan view and includes a first upper layer 12 and a second lower layer 14 . The inner surface of the upper layer 12 is provided with a concave coating which scatters light. The inner surface of the lower layer 14 is provided with a highly polished high precision reflective coating.

[0020] as from figure 2 As can be seen in , the reflector 4 is generally square in plan view. The corners 16, 16', 16" and 16'' of the upper layer 12 are truncated to reduce losses due to light blocking.

[0021] In a similar manner, the corners 18, 18', 18" and 18'' of the lower layer 14 are also truncated and additionally provided with reflector inserts in order to improve light distribution. Side reflector inserts 20, 20', 20" and 20'' Placed along the side walls of the...

Abstract

A reflector for a luminaire comprises a light source (6), a column (8) and a housing (2), and has a light-source facing surface for reflecting light. The reflector (4) comprises a first, upper tier (12) having a light scattering surface arranged so as, in use, to direct the light from the light source generally vertically downwards towards the base of the column and a second, lower tier (14) having a high precision light reflecting surface arranged so as, in use, to direct the light towards the ground and away from the base of the column. The reflector is preferably generally square in plan.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to an improved reflector for a lighting device. Such reflectors are particularly suitable for use in lighting fixtures forming part of an exterior lighting system in which the lighting fixture is one of a series of lighting fixtures arranged to illuminate an area such as a car park or town center . Background technique [0002] Numerous lighting devices are known which can be arranged in a row to form a lighting system for illuminating an area such as a car park or town centre. The growing problem with such systems is that they are required to meet stringent planning requirements, both in terms of aesthetic considerations and light pollution, and are also required to meet increasingly stringent technical regulations regarding average and minimum illumination levels . [0003] The problem of light pollution can be boiled down to three separate themes, namely skyglow, overspill and glare. [0004] "Skylight" refers to li...
