Abstract

A door latch for a household appliance, in particular for a washing machine, comprises a rotary gripper which, when closing a door, can be shifted from a released position to a gripped position by rotation in a plane of rotation. The rotary gripper forms a gripping opening that is oriented in a gripping position to hold and catch the closing hook therein and a release position oriented to release the closing hook that moves relatively closer to the rotary gripper along a closing path when the door is closed. In the clamping position, the rotary gripper is arranged to move back into a back position by translating in the plane of rotation transversely to the closing path so as to allow the door to be closed in the clamping position. The door latch comprises an electrically controllable locking mechanism having a movably arranged blocking element which can be fixed in a clamping position in a blocking position in which the blocking element cooperates with the rotary gripper in order to block its movement from the clamping position into the release position or the receding position.
