A mechanism for determining whether to execute a process of raising a document tray when a document is detected according to an activated application is provided. A method of controlling an image processing apparatus includes: raising a document tray while placing a document on the document tray; conveying the original manuscript placed on the original tray which is lifted in the lifting process; reading the document conveyed in the conveyance; and registering for the application whether the document tray is raised when the document is placed on the document tray.
