Abstract

A transmitting apparatus and a transmitting method for a digital broadcasting system are provided to extend a range of error correction by using two RS encoders. A multi-stage error correction code generator(210) includes a first RS(Reed-Solomon) encoder, a block interleaver, and a second RS encoder. The first RS encoder outputs data encoded in blocks to correct errors of inputted data. The block interleaver rearranges the data output from the first RS encoder. The second RS encoder outputs re-encoded data in blocks to correct errors of the data output from the block interleaver. An outer interleaver(220) rearranges the data output from the second RS encoder in bytes. A convolution encoder(230) convolutedly encodes the data output from the outer interleaver. An inner interleaver(240) rearranges the data output from the convolution encoder. A modulator(300) modulates the data digitally.
