Embodiment Construction

[0025] The magneto-optical recording medium of the present invention (hereinafter simply referred to as an optical disc) is constructed such that both grooves and lands are provided as recording tracks on a substrate, and laser light is irradiated on the substrate from the rear surface side for recording and reproduction.

[0026] Next, examples of the optical disc of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings. However, the optical disc of the present invention is not limited to a certain embodiment or working example. In particular, the optical disc of the present invention can be applied to any optical disc in which grooves and lands are formed as recording tracks on a substrate.

[0027] figure 1 is a partially cutaway perspective view of a magneto-optical recording medium 1 (hereinafter simply referred to as an optical disc 1) according to the present invention. The optical disc 1 of the present invention allows recording and reproduction of r...

Abstract

A magneto-optical recording medium for MSR reproduction using both of land and groove surfaces as recording tracks and having a high signal quality. In the magneto-optical recording medium, both of the land portion and the groove portion on the substrate are used as recording / reproduction tracks by applying a laser beam via an objective lens. The ratio Wg / Wl of the track width (Wg) of the groove portion with respect to the track width (Wl) of the land portion is set to be not smaller than 0.65 and not greater than 0.85. Furthermore, when the laser beam has wavelength [lambda], the objective lens has numerical aperture NA, and the substrate has refractive index n, the distance Gp between grooves is not smaller than 1.0 x [lambda] / NA and not greater than 1.2 x [lambda] / NA and the groove has a depth D not smaller than [lambda] / 11n and not greater than [lambda] / 8n.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a magneto-optical recording medium, and more particularly to a magneto-optical recording medium in which both lands and grooves are used as recording and reproducing tracks. Background technique [0002] Rewritable and readable magneto-optical recording media (hereinafter simply referred to as optical discs) are widely used as file storage for personal computers and are widely used for storing music and image data. In order to cope with these demands, various techniques have been developed and are being developed for increasing the recording capacity. As a method of increasing the recording capacity, a method of increasing the recording density in the radial direction and the circumferential direction may be employed. [0003] As a method of increasing the recording density in the radial direction, a land-groove recording format in which both lands (flat portions) and grooves (grooved portions) are used as recording tr...
