Embodiment Construction

[0020] According to the standard OSI model and as figure 1 As shown, the link layer (ie, layer 2) is responsible for sharing the services provided by the PHY interface among multiple users. In addition, it can implement some error control mechanisms to correct possible errors in the PHY layer.

[0021] Layer 3, as known per se, is a network layer in the OSI model that provides protocol data units (L3-PDUs) that must be sent to a receiver.

[0022] According to the present invention, layer 3 judges which data is sensitive to application performance and which data is not sensitive to application performance in each L3-PDU. Every time layer 3 wants to send an L3-PDU to the link layer, it also provides data information defining error-sensitive data sets in addition to the L3-PDU. Assuming that the error-sensitive data is at the beginning of the L3-PDU, these information are advantageously the PDU length, the number of bytes of error-sensitive PDU data. This last parameter is ca...

Abstract

The invention concerns a method for transmitting a payload encapsulated in a packet from a transmitter to a receiver by using an Automatic Request process, in which: the receiver checks each packet received from the transmitter to detect some potential corrupted received packets the receiver acknowledges the correct or the corrupted reception of each received packet by emitting one or many acknowledgment messages to the transmitter; the transmitter sends again the packets that were indicated as corrupted in the received acknowledgment messages. For at least some packets, it implements an EC-PartARQ error control mechanism including the steps of: defining a sensitive part and a non-sensitive part in the transmitted packet; checking only each sensitive part in the packets for detecting any potential corrupted received packet, a packet being considered as corrupted if the sensitive part has not been correctly received.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a method of sending a payload encapsulated in a packet from a sender to a receiver by using automatic request processing. Background technique [0002] With the gradual development of multimedia applications, numerous studies have been devoted to coding exchange data to improve their transmission over data networks. In particular, some applications, such as video decoding software, can tolerate errors in their received data streams. Some error recovery and concealment mechanisms allow errors to be detected and able to handle them. Depending on the application performance, the end user may notice minor defects that are not serious enough to bother him. For example, in MPEG / 2 video transmission, these artifacts are small visual distortions that can occur during short time intervals. In audio transmissions such as GSM mobile phones, a defect means a drop in sound quality or a short interruption. Such applications have ...
