Abstract

An air cleaner and a method for controlling the same, wherein the air cleaner has the same high air cleaning efficiency in the entire indoor space having a complicated structure or wide. The air cleaner includes: a main body including an air purification filter; and a transport unit for moving the main body around a purification area. The method for controlling the air cleaner includes: detecting a pollution level in a purification area; comparing the detected pollution level with a first reference value; determining which one of mobile purification and stationary purification is required based on the comparison; , performing static cleaning while the air cleaner remains at the first position in the cleaning area; and performing mobile cleaning while moving the air cleaner around the cleaning area when mobile cleaning is required.
