A remotely-controlled robotic apparatus for deactivating explosive ordinance, such as IEDs. The remotely-controlled robotic apparatus is provided with a robotic portion that provides mobility, and a laser portion configured to be aimed at an object of interest (for example an object believed to comprise an IED) and to deactivate the object by destroying, damaging or disconnecting at least one of a control apparatus and a power supply from the object of interest. The remotely-controlled robotic apparatus provides the capability to dispose of IEDs without having an explosion. The remote-controlled robotic apparatus can include a camera and an illumination source for examining objects of interest. A remote control console is provided for the use of an operator in controlling the robotic apparatus.

A method and system of efficiently distributing configuration information for IEDs across one or more networks in an electrical monitoring system is disclosed. Changing configuration information is managed by a configuration management system. The IEDs in the network or networks are organized in peer relationships, each peer relationship having at least one seed IED. The configuration information is loaded to the seed IED or seed IEDs which make the configuration parameter available to other IEDs in a peer relationship with the seed IED. The other IEDs may in turn become seed IEDs for other IEDs. The configuration information therefore cascades throughout the network without further communication between the configuration management system and the selected IEDs.

The present invention provides an apparatus and method of detecting, locating, and suppressing electronic devices, specifically IEDs. This RF emission measurement device in some embodiments can also be considered a system for RF emission measurement, location, and suppression. In some embodiments the apparatus comprises a high sensitivity receiver for receiving and analyzing electronic emissions. In other embodiments the apparatus comprises a high sensitivity receiver and an electromagnetic source for illuminating, and/or suppressing an electromagnetic device. The electromagnetic source could be any electromagnetic emitter known in the art, for example a magnetron or an adjustable wideband electromagnetic emitter.

A system and method for suppressing radio frequency (“RF”) transmissions includes a transmitter for transmitting electronic signals that suppresses (e.g., prevents, disrupts, jams, interferes with or otherwise disables) RF transmissions. Some embodiments of the invention include a transmitter that suppresses one or more signals transmitted from a target transmitter in an RF transmission system to a target receiver in a wireless device operating in the RF transmission system to prevent, disrupt, jam, interfere with or otherwise disable an RF transmission between the target transmitter and the target receiver in the wireless device (i.e., target wireless device). These systems and methods may be used to interrupt communication, command and control of non-friendly combatant. These systems and methods may also be used to suppress RF transmissions to prevent the detonation of improvised explosive devices, or IEDs.

A lightweight, armored protective garment for protecting an arm or leg from blast superheated gases, blast overpressure shock, shrapnel, and spall from a explosive device, such as a Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) or a roadside Improvised Explosive Device (IED). The garment has a ballistic sleeve made of a ballistic fabric, such as an aramid fiber (e.g., KEVLAR®) cloth, that prevents thermal burns from the blast superheated gases, while providing some protection from fragments. Additionally, the garment has two or more rigid armor inserts that cover the upper and lower arm and protect against high-velocity projectiles, shrapnel and spall. The rigid inserts can be made of multiple plies of a carbon/epoxy composite laminate. The combination of 6 layers of KEVLAR® fabric and 28 plies of carbon/epoxy laminate inserts (with the inserts being sandwiched in-between the KEVLAR® layers), can meet the level IIIA fragmentation minimum V₅₀ requirements for the US Interceptor Outer Tactical Vest.

An intelligent electronic device (IED), e.g., an electrical power meter, having at least one removable memory device for storing data sensed and generated by the intelligent electronic device is provided. The IED includes a housing; at least one sensor; at least one analog-to-digital converter; at least one processing unit coupled to the at least one analog-to-digital converter configured to receive the digital data and store the digital data in a removable memory; and at least one device controller coupled to the at least one processing unit, the at least one device controller including an interface disposed on the housing for interfacing with the removable memory, wherein the at least one device controller is operative as a USB master or USB slave device controller.

Systems are described herein for remotely aligning and placing disruptive devices at or near suspicious targets such as suspected improvised explosive devices (IEDs). In particular, tools connected to remotely controllable robots include disruptor guns for firing disruptive materials at the targets and disruptive devices filled with explosive materials, e.g., water, for controllably detonating or disrupting the detonation of the targets when placed in close proximity thereto.

A technique and apparatus for generating high voltage (100s-1000s kV) and supplying high current (fractional to many tens of kilo-amperes), projecting a parallel, two wire electrical transmission line over a large distance (10s-100s m), or a single conductor in which the return path is the earth, which is capable of sustaining high voltages and conducting high currents, and landing the terminating terminals of the transmission line across a pre-defined target zone resulting in a low impedance closure of the electrical circuit causing high electrical current to flow. Provided is a system and method for converting serial data associated with an IED into secure data packets configured for transmission during an IED maintenance session; preferably wireless transmission. The system includes a first intelligent assembly operatively coupled to the IED, and a second intelligent assembly operatively coupled to the first intelligent device via a wireless communication link. Each of the first and second intelligent assemblies includes a microcontroller adapted to apply two independent security algorithms to the serial data to form the secure data packets, and vice versa. The second intelligent assembly further includes a plurality of legacy software applications executable to enable the IED maintenance session to be conducted by an operator from a location of the second intelligent assembly. The security algorithms preferably include an AES encryption/decryption function and a HMAC authentication function.

The present invention comprises an extension tube that attaches to the bore end of a water jet producing device that is used to render safe improvised explosive devices by disrupting the firing train of said devices. The present invention comprises an extension tube having a sudden enlargement of cross section, that may be formed by adjusting the dimensions of the interior diameter of the extension tube, at the point of attachment, and a series of apertures in the attachment tube. The extension tube provides a more uniform jet of water with more focused energy by containing the jet until breech pressures are vented. Better control of the water jet will be maintained during firing operations. Further, more energy may be put into the water jet to accomplish specific tasks.

In one embodiment, an explosive device (IED) simulator usable with a laser detector is provided, the IED simulator comprising a laser transmitter and a first switch. The laser transmitter is capable of directing a laser signal to the laser detector, the laser signal comprising information readable by the laser detector, wherein the laser signal is designed to simulate at least a first type of explosion of an IED. The first switch is operably coupled to the laser transmitter, the first switch permitting a user to trigger the laser signal from the laser transmitter. The first type of explosion that is simulated can comprise at least one type selected from the group consisting of an indoor IED explosion, an outdoor IED explosion, a long range IED explosion, an IED explosion of 2 m to 5 m away from a target, an IED explosion of up to 600 m from a target, and an IED explosion having a predetermined kill pattern. Advantageously, the laser transmitter is constructed and arranged to generate a laser signal encoded with a MILES code.

A system for screening, where a subject walks through a scanning area (for example, between two panels) provides readily deployable detectors for places where such detection may not normally be in use or available—such as public gatherings, voting lines, entrances of stadiums, religious gathering places, banks, and markets. High resolution imaging is achieved through implementation of central feed network elements, left-hand circularly polarized (LHCP) and right-hand circularly polarized (RHCP) arrays, and terahertz radar, as well as core signal processing at 5 GHz using ultra wideband (UWB) sensors. A walk-through screening station scans individuals to detect contraband such as a concealed weapon or improvised explosive device (IED) using ultra wideband (UWB) radar sensing and imaging systems employing wafer scale active array antennas. UWB radar and advanced imaging technology enable automated threat recognition and display for monitoring personnel. The invention discloses monitoring equipment of an intelligent transformer, comprising an equipment cabinet, a voltage current and bushing insulation measurement improvised explosive device (IED), a basic parameter measurement IED, a cooling device monitoring IED and a power box for IEDs, wherein the equipment cabinet is used for containing equipment and the power box; the voltage current and bushing insulation measurement IED is used for carrying out measurement on effective values of working voltage, load current, bushing tap current, neutral point current, and is in charge of calculation on power factors, dielectric loss, harmonic content, harmonic distortion rate and other electric parameters; the basic parameter measurement IED is used for monitoring light gas and heavy gas, contents of the light gas and heavy gas, a pressure relief valve, tap switch gears, switch oil level, iron core earth current as well as temperature, humidity and other numbers and analog quantity in the equipment cabinet; the cooling device monitoring IED is used for monitoring the status of a cooler, winding temperature, top oil temperature, bottom oil temperature, ambient temperature, humidity and other numbers and analog quantity; and the power box for the IEDs is used for providing +/-5V, +/-12V and +/-24V stabilized voltage supplies for the three IEDs. For the monitoring equipment, the functions are abundant, and a modular design is adopted, thus being simple and easily used; and in addition, the monitoring equipment has strong applicability and good development aspects.

A laser guided projectile device and method for shooting the device through a percussion actuated non-electric disrupter or dearmer to disable or destroy improvised explosive devices, bombs, or other ordnance. The device can include a cartridge case, a laser housing, a laser module, and a projectile head. An aperture in the projectile head permits a laser beam to be emitted through the head and projected onto a target to facilitate increased shooting accuracy of the disrupter or dearmer. The device can include O-rings positioned around the laser housing and projectile head that assist in aligning the device within the disrupter or dearmer and that also provide a seal for gases that are emitted during detonation, thereby assisting in the propulsion of the device during firing. The projectile head can be interchangeable and can be rounded or cone-shaped or can comprise a shot cup.

A precision coaxial water jet disruption explosive device system that holds a blasting cap precisely to the surface of a cylindrically cut positioned plastic explosive that couples a detonation shock wave into water surrounding a hollow forming cavity. A pressure relief vent enables the water filled system to be assembled without deforming the thin walled hollow jet forming cavity, enabling forming repeatable supersonic jets on centerline axis. This system is positioned with two triangular pivot legs and aligned with two fan light beams or a line sight to define a projected jet route to deliver a water jet that can cut through over 1 inch of steel and disrupt target objects more than 9 feet away. This system is used to disable improvised explosive devices, and other dangerous objects, without detonating the targeted explosives and electronic devices such that the contents are destroyed without explosion sequences occurring.
