[0111] Scatter Beads A and C-F

[0112] For the preparation of suspension polymers, aluminum hydroxide Pickering stabilizers were used, which were prepared by precipitation of aluminum sulfate and soda solutions immediately before the actual polymerization started. For this purpose, 16 g of Al 2 (SO 4 ) 3 , 0.032g of complexing agent (Trilon A) and 0.16g of emulsifier (K30 emulsifier available from Bayer AG; C 15 - paraffin sulfonic acid sodium salt) was dissolved in 0.8 liters of distilled water. The 1N sodium carbonate solution is then added with stirring to the aluminum sulfate dissolved in water at a temperature of about 40[deg.] C., where the pH value is then 5-5.5. A colloidal distribution of the stabilizer in water is achieved by this procedure. In order to prevent deposition of...

Abstract

The present invention relates to a method for production of bead polymers with an average particle size in the range 1mu to 40mu, whereby a polymerisable composition is dispersed and polymerised in an aqueous phase with generation of a dispersion stabilised by an aluminium compound having a shear speed = 10<3> s<-1>. A polymerisable composition is used, comprising, based on the total weight thereof, a) more than 50.0 wt. % of at least one compound of formula (I), whereby the groups <1>R to <6>R are as given in the description, b) 0.1 wt. % to 10.0 wt. % of at least one cross-linker and d) less than 49.9 wt. % of at least one compound of formula (II) whereby the groups R and <7>R to <9>R are as defined in the description. The bead polymers produced by the method are particularly suitable for the production of moulded bodies with light scattering properties.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a process for preparing bead polymers having an average particle size of 1 μm to 40 μm, wherein a polymerizable composition is dispersed and polymerized in an aqueous phase. The invention also relates to molding compositions and moldings comprising the bead polymers prepared according to the invention. Background technique [0002] For different applications, bead polymers with particle sizes in the order of 1 μm to 40 μm and with relatively narrow particle size distributions are required. These beads can be used in particular as additives for PMMA molding compositions. [0003] Light-scattering molding compositions are to be considered in particular as fields of application. Here, standard molding compositions are mixed with so-called scattering beads, which are crosslinked and whose refractive index differs from that of the matrix. PMMA-based scattering particles are currently used in these molding compositions, th...
