[0015] Embodiments of the present invention provide systems and methods for enhanced haptic feedback. In one illustrative embodiment, a computer-readable medium stores information about the capabilities of a haptic device. A processor receives a media stream having haptic information encoded at a predetermined frequency. The processor uses bandpass filters to extract haptic information from the media stream. Subsequently, the processor generates actuator signals for use in generating haptic effects associated with the haptic information. The actuator signal is based at least in part on information stored in the computer readable medium and is related to the performance of the particular haptic device. After generating the actuator signal, the processor generates an output signal including the multimedia data and the actuator signal. The output signal is in the same format as the input signal.
