Embodiment Construction

[0032] figure 1 An automatic grouping process agp of a large number of objects to be displayed on a display, such as a computer monitor, is shown. Said number of objects corresponds eg to an initial list OL having N entries i1, i2, i3, . . . , iN. The display can display a maximum number M of said items i1 , i2 , i3 , . . . , iN in a suitable direction at a time, for example in a vertical direction. When the initial list OL includes too many entries i1, i2, i3, ..., iN to be displayed at once, the automatic grouping procedure agp selects the first part i1, i1, i3, ..., iM of said entries, thus defining The first group gi1. The selected second portion of entries defines the second group gi2, and so on. Finally, M subgroups are established from the initial N list entries i1, i2, i3, . . . , iN. The resulting groups gi1, gi2, gi3, . . . giM are displayed on the display as a first list GL.

Abstract

The present invention provides a method for displaying a multitude of objects on a display, said display offering an electronic pointer device. The method comprises of the following steps: determining a maximum number of said objects to be displayed in an adaptable orientation at a time automatically grouping said multitude of objects into at least one group containing at most said maximum number of said objects displaying said at least one group in a first list automatically displaying said objects grouped into said at least one group in a second list upon said electronic pointer device pointing to said at least one group. Furthermore, a display used for the described method is described, as well as a computer system, a maintenance management system and a mobile phone using the described method and display.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to methods and systems for displaying a large number of objects on a display. Background technique [0002] In the field of communication management, many existing management systems for remote management of equipment are usually distributed in a very large area and in a large number of units. Such systems are known as OMCs (Operation and Maintenance Centres), and their complexity continues to grow. The OMC provides the operator with a user interface displayed on a monitor that provides many graphical tools to improve system usability. Just as the OMC operator can directly act on the hardware device, or interface with the virtual object representing the network management function, act on the OMC display. [0003] Considering the increase in the complexity of the communication network, the number of supervised objects is increasing more and more. As the number of supervised objects increases, it is necessary to supervis...
