Embodiment Construction

[0026] The embodiments disclosed herein include a computer system that performs classification processing of electric devices. The power-consuming device classification process classifies power-consuming devices in a wired data telecommunication network, the power-consuming device is coupled to a power supply device to receive in-line power from the power supply device, and the wired data telecommunication network has at least two For the conductor, the conductor couples the electric device and the power supply device. The electric device must be able to store the memory of the voltage received from the power supply device, and be able to store its own previous and future states. In one embodiment, the electrical device must retain memory for the received voltage of generally 9 volts (plus or minus 1 volt). The electrical device must clear the memory at a voltage of generally 4 volts (plus or minus 1 volt).

Abstract

A system conducts a plurality of cycles on the powered device. Each cycle has a detection phase and a classification phase. A classification voltage is applied to the conductors during each cycle. The system measures a current in the conductors while the classification voltage is applied. The system determines a final class responsive to a plurality of measured currents. The final class utilized to determine an amount of inline power to deliver to the powered device.

Description

[0001] Cross-references to related applications [0002] This application is a partial continuation of the pending patent application entitled "POWERED DEVICECLASSIFICATION IN A WIRED DATA TELECOMMUNICATIONSNETWORK" (US 2006 / 00920000) filed on November 3, 2004. This patent application involves: U.S. Patent Application Publication No. 2006082220 filed on April 20, 2006, entitled "Inline power-based common mode communications in a wired data telecommunications network"; and filed on May 8, 2006, The serial number 11 / 429,906 entitled "INLINE POWER ALLOCATION FOR POWER OVER ETHERNET APPLICATIONS". Background technique [0003] Inline Power (also known as Power over Ethernet or PoE) is used to transfer power from the power supply equipment (PSE) to the power supply equipment (PSE) through the link part on the wired data telecommunication network (such as the well-known Ethernet) Device (PD) technology to provide electrical power. Power can be injected by an endpoint power supply devic...
