Embodiment Construction

[0025] Embodiments of the present invention provide a system for stiffening and reinforcing a sliding door to delay and even prevent the door from being twisted over time. Such distortions may simply be the result of aging or humidity, or may result from, for example, the weight of a mirror installed on a closet door causing the door to sink or bend. figure 1 An example of this type is described in which the closet 10 is equipped with a sliding door 12 that has been bent. According to the embodiment of the present invention, this distortion can be figure 2 As shown, the reinforcement rod 24 is installed on the sliding door 12 to avoid and even be corrected, figure 2 The same closet 10 and sliding door 12 are shown, which are now equipped with the reinforcing rod 24 of the present invention. The vertical arrow indicates the force applied to the sliding door 12 when the reinforcing rod 24 is tightened. See results image 3 , Where the same sliding door 12 has been straightened ...

Abstract

Presented herein is a system for stiffening and strengthening a door, said system comprising a plurality of stoppers each having a channel, wherein said stoppers are affixed to the door; and at least one stiffening rod seated within the channels of said stoppers; and means for shortening the span of said stiffening rod disposed between said stoppers; whereby shortening the span results in straightening the door.

Description

Technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to sliding doors, and in particular to components for such doors. Background technique [0002] Many cabinets, closets and other passages are equipped with sliding doors. Although sliding doors are easy to install and operate and do not require hinges or even door handles, these doors tend to twist over time, such as bending (in which the wood is bent against the grain), and warping or twisting. It is known in the prior art to attach certain wooden reinforcements to wood panels to help prevent bending. As long as the reinforcement itself is not distorted, this can prove to be an effective way to strengthen the sliding door. However, when heavy objects such as mirrors are hung on the sliding door, simple wooden reinforcements may not be enough to prevent the door from twisting. [0003] WO9743098 provides another solution, which is quoted in its entirety below, which teaches inserting reinforcements into holes drilled...
