Abstract
A chewing gum contains a water-insoluble gum base portion containing a polyolefin thermoplastic elastomer; a water-soluble bulk portion; and at least one flavor component, which is cud-forming and chewable at mouth temperature.
Description
Background of the invention [0001] The present invention relates to chewing gum. More specifically, the present invention relates to improved formulations for chewing gum bases and chewing gums containing polyolefin thermoplastic elastomers. [0002] The main components of chewing gum are typically a water-insoluble gum base portion and a water-soluble bulking agent portion, which typically includes bulking agents (such as sugar and sugar alcohols) and small amounts of secondary components such as flavoring agents, coloring agents , water-soluble softener, colloidal emulsifier, sour agent and sensitizer. Typically, the water soluble fraction, sensates and flavors dissipate during chewing, while the gum base remains in the mouth throughout the chew. [0003] Water insoluble gum bases typically contain elastomers, elastomer plasticizers, softeners / emulsifiers including fats and oils, and fillers. Elastomers useful in gum bases are typically synthetic elastomers such as polyis...
