Embodiment Construction

[0016] exist figure 1 , schematically shows a cross-sectional view of a wound dressing according to a first preferred embodiment. The dressing 1 comprises a pre-compressed body 2 of compressible elastic material, such as plastic foam. Said body 2 is enclosed in an airtight envelope 3 in a compressed state before it is placed inside the dressing 1, as figure 1 shown. Thereby, the pre-compression of the body 2 is maintained during handling of the body 2 , storage of the body and dressings comprising such a body, and transport thereof. The gas-tight envelope 3 consists entirely, or at least a large part of its bottom side, of a material which dissolves in contact with liquid, for example a film of polyvinyl alcohol. The body 2 in its sleeve 3 is covered by an outer layer 4 of airtight material, preferably a plastic film, extending laterally beyond the periphery of the body 2 to enable the dressing 1 to adhere to the skin around the wound area . On the bottom side of the memb...

Abstract

The present invention relates to wound dressing (1) including an outer layer of air-impermeable material (4) and means (5) for attaching the dressing to the skin surrounding a wound, a pre-compressed body (2) of resilient material, said body creating a sub-pressure after attaching the dressing to a wound. According to the invention the pre-compressed body (2) is enclosed in a casing (3) of air-tight material, whereby at least a portion of said casing is made of a soluble material, which dissolves after contact with liquid exudate.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a wound dressing comprising: an outer layer of an air impermeable material, means for attaching the dressing to the periwound skin, and a pre-compressed body of elastic material which acts to attach the dressing Create negative pressure behind the wound. Background technique [0002] It has been shown that wound healing is favored if the wound area is at subatmospheric or negative pressure. Wound dressings that generate a negative pressure in the space surrounding the wound area are likewise known in the art, see for example US 4,969,880, US 5,645,081, US 5,636,643, US 6,855,135, WO2006 / 025848, US2008 / 0082059 and US 2008 / 0004559. Such dressings, so-called NPT-dressings (Negative Pressure Therapy), are usually connected via tubing or the like to an external source of negative pressure, often pump-driven. The external source of negative pressure may be a stationary device or a device that the patient may carry with him....
