Problems solved by technology

One disadvantage associated with traditional rope guards is that they induce a lateral component relative to the force exerted by the power rope against the bow arm as the center of the power rope moves laterally from its straight position
This lateral moment not only reduces the accuracy of the arrow's flight, but it can also cause the arms, cams, wheels and / or handle to twist, greatly shortening their lifespan
Traditional rope guards can also cause power ropes to be installed or removed from cams and wheels at an angle
Sometimes this can cause the power cord to move out of the cam and / or wheel

Embodiment Construction

[0024] A more complete understanding of the present invention may be given to those skilled in the art from the following description of specific details. However, some well known elements have not been shown or described in detail to avoid unnecessarily obscuring the present invention. Accordingly, it is to be regarded that the description and drawings are illustrative only and not restrictive.

[0025] FIG. 1 shows an example of a prior art single cam compound bow 10 such as that disclosed in US Patent 5,782,229 to Evans et al., which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. The bow 10 has a handle portion 20 to which first and second elastically deformable bow arms 22, 24 are attached. The bow arm 22 is adapted to receive a pulley 26 at its outer end. The pulley 26 is free to rotate about an axis 27 . Bow arm 24 is adapted to pivotally receive cam assembly 30 at its outer end. Cam assembly 30 is mounted on shaft 28 and pivots about axis 29 . Bow arms 22 and...

Abstract

A compound bow comprising a handle portion having a first limb and a second limb extending outwardly therefrom, a wide body cam assembly pivotally coupled to the first limb near an outer end thereof, and a dual wheel assembly pivotally coupled to the second limb near an outer end thereof. The wide body cam assembly comprises a main sheave and a collector sheave located on opposite sides of a cable sheave. The main sheave is spaced apart from the cable sheave by a first distance sufficient to permit arrows to be fired from the bow free from interference by a cable without the use of a cable guard. The dual wheel assembly comprises a feed out sheave and a take in sheave separated by a second distance which is larger than the first distance. The feed out sheave is positioned substantially within a plane defined by the main sheave.

Description

technical field [0001] Generally, the present invention relates to the field of compound archery bows. More specifically, certain embodiments of the present invention relate to single cam type synthetic archery sport bows. Background technique [0002] Typically, a composite archery sporting bow has a bowstring on which an arrow rests, and in addition to the bowstring, one or more sections of cord also extend between the arms of the bow. Such cord portions (sometimes referred to as "power cords") typically lie at least partially at or near the operating plane of the bowstring. Therefore, the power rope may interfere with archery. [0003] In order to provide sufficient room for arrows, it is common practice to mount a rope guard on the bow so as to engage the center section of the power rope and move the center section laterally a sufficient distance to one side of the bowstring operating plane to avoid interference with the arrow . One disadvantage associated with conve...
