[0026]This document describes the institution by which a medical external defibrillator is capable of providing interaction in both BLS mode and ALS mode. The techniques described herein provide convenient operation in BLS mode, enabling users with relatively little training to operate the defibrillator. For example, features that may be desired in ALS mode can be hidden from the user in BLS mode so that the user is not confused or confused. Some of these features can be manifested through physical objects that the user can manipulate to affect the operation of the defibrillator, and because they are physical, must be physically (eg, by placing a cover over them) Rather than masking them electronically (for example, by not displaying them on the screen).

[0027] As one example, certain notifications or warning messages can be hidden from the user of the defibrillator while the defibrillator is in LBS mode. Those messages could simply indicate the status of the defibrillator...

Abstract

A medical device comprising: a display area having a thin panel having a substantially planar front surface portion; a translucent layer on a rear surface of the thin panel; a layer of text or graphics , the layer of text or graphics is on the rear surface of the translucent layer and is arranged so that when no light is provided from the interior of the device housing, the layer of text or graphics is invisible to the user on the front side of the device a switch that allows a user to select a first mode or a second mode of the device; and a circuit arranged to energize one or more light sources to emit light from behind the thin panel when the device is in the first mode. Light is provided and thereby the text or graphics are made visible when the device is in the first mode.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 61 / 265,309, entitled "Dual-Mode Defibrillator Display," to Ziad Elghazzawi et al., filed November 30, 2009, the contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0003] This document concerns components used to create user displays on medical devices such as defibrillators. Background technique [0004] Cardiac arrest (colloquially, "heart attack") is a serious condition that often leads to death. The speed with which lifeguards are able to respond to a cardiac arrest is one of the most important, if not the most important, determinants of the successful rescue of a victim of cardiac arrest. For example, it is said that the likelihood of surviving cardiac arrest decreases by 10% for every minute that rescue (eg, defibrillation or chest compressions) is delayed. Therefore, the speed of response can be very import...
