[0064] In some embodiments of the method of preparing a structured surface according to the present invention, the initial density of upstanding elements is at least 248 per square centimeter (cm 2 ) (1600 / square inch (in 2 )). For example, the initial density of upright elements can be at least 394 / cm 2 (2500pcs / in 2 ), 550 pieces / cm 2 (3500pcs / in 2 ) or at least about 787 / cm 2 (5000pcs / in 2 ). In some embodiments, the initial density of upright elements can be up to about 1575 / cm 2 (10000pcs / in 2 ) or up to about 1182 / cm 2 (7500pcs / in 2 ). For example, at 394 pcs / cm 2 (2500pcs / in 2 ) to 1575 / cm 2 (10000pcs / in 2 ) range of initial densities may be useful. However, the spacing of the upstanding elements need not be uniform. The initial density of the rod will affect the thickness of the implement that can be used to pass between the row of upstanding elements.
[0065] Upstanding elements of various shapes can be used in the practice of the invention. The up...

[0143] hook strap
[0144] The hook straps of Comparative Examples 1-4A (available from 3M Company, St. Paul, MN)). The polymer used to make the hook strap was an ethylene-propylene copolymer available from Dow Chemical Co., Midland, MI under the trade designation "C700-35N." The hook density is 1600 hooks per square inch (248 hooks / cm 2 ) (arranged in a square array) and the pillars are tapered in shape. In Table 1, the total thickness, basement film thickness, basis weight, cap diameter in the transverse direction, and cap diameter in the longitudinal direction are reported for Comparative Examples 1-4A. The cap shapes of Comparative Examples 1 and 2 were oval. The cap shapes of Comparative Examples 3, 4, and 4A were circular. Comparative Example 4A was prepared from Comparative Example 4 by forming a "hook head with a downwardly projecting fiber engaging portion" using the procedure described in US Patent No. 6,132,660.
