Abstract

The present invention discloses co-authoring in drawing tools. Methods and systems for co-authoring in drawing tools are described. A computer-implemented method includes displaying a first username of a first user in association with a first shape on a drawing, and receiving an indication that a second user is co-authoring the drawing. The method includes receiving an indication that a second user has modified a second shape on the drawing. The method also includes displaying a second username of the second user in association with the second shape on the drawing in response to the indication that the second user has modified the second shape. The methods and systems may also include, in some cases, periodic sharing of metadata between co-authors to indicate edits made by other co-authors.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to co-authoring in drawing tools. Background technique [0002] Often in collaborative environments where multiple users have access to a common set of files on a server, multiple users often wish to edit the same document at the same time if possible. In these situations, many problems arise because of potential conflicts that may arise between edits by various users. For example, if a first user and a second user edit a word or move a drawing object at the same time, it can be difficult to determine which user's changes should be applied to the document. Thus, in many cases, "editing" access to a document is limited to one user at a time to avoid the possibility of such editing conflicts. From the user's point of view, this is inconvenient, because only one user can edit the document at a time, and all other users are either completely locked out of the document, or are only given permission by the server or applicatio...
