Embodiment Construction

[0055] Embodiments of the connectors, systems and associated methods of the present invention are described below with reference to the drawings. These drawings and their written description indicate that certain components of the apparatus are integrally formed and certain other components are formed as separate pieces. Those skilled in the art will appreciate that integrally formed components shown and described herein may be formed as separate pieces in alternative embodiments. Those skilled in the art will further appreciate that components shown and described herein as being formed as a single piece may be integrally formed in alternative embodiments. Furthermore, as used herein, the term "unitary" describes a single unit or piece, with a single piece meaning a single piece that is formed singly, such as a mold or casting that is formed singly. Furthermore, the terms "first" and "second" used herein are understood as identifiers used only to distinguish similar but diffe...

Abstract

The present invention describes a two-way latching device or connector wherein a first connector component and a second connector component have a first latched position and a second latched position when moved in a first direction, and wherein when the restraining feature is overcome may also move in a second direction. As described, opposing magnetic, pneumatic pressure, spring and crushable forces may be incorporated such that further movement in the second direction must overcome the constraint feature. The two-way latching device may be used with articles such as implantable medical devices, door panels, aircraft panels, and drilling devices, to name a few.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application is a regular utility application of Provisional Application No. 61 / 568,529 filed December 8, 2011, the contents of which are expressly incorporated herein by reference. This application may be related to and expressly incorporated by reference in Application No. 13 / 239,153, filed September 21, 2011, the contents of which are expressly incorporated herein by reference middle. technical field [0003] Latching and locking devices and assemblies and associated methods are generally discussed herein with specific discussion extending to latching devices that latch when inserted in a first orientation and when withdrawn in a second orientation locks when inserted, but permits latching in the second direction when further inserted in the first direction. The devices, assemblies and methods are capable of bi-directional latching. Other aspects of the devices, assemblies, and methods of the present invention...
