An endoscope comprises: an operation portion configured to include a grasping portion provided in an extending direction of an insertion axis of an insertion portion which is provided with a distal end portion, a bending portion and a flexible tube portion connected in series, the distal end portion provided with an image pickup device for picking up an object image, the bending portion being bendable with a plurality of bending pieces connected in series, the flexible tube portion elongated and having flexibility, and an operation portion body provided in an extending direction of an longitudinal axis of the grasping portion and having a longitudinal axis parallel to the longitudinal axis of the grasping portion; at least one pair of pulling members that extend from bending pieces constituting the bending portion and led into the operation portion, and cause the bending portion to bend by relative movement; a pulley that is provided inside the operation portion and around which the pulling members are wound in the same direction; a motor that is provided at the operation portion and rotates the pulley, around which intermediate portions of the pulling members are wound, in a pulling direction; an operation element that is provided to protrude from the operation portion body and has a shaft portion tiltable with respect to the operation portion body; a hanging frame that is provided at the shaft portion of the operation element and comprises attachment portions to which the at lest one pair of pulling members led into the operation portion are fixedly provided respectively, the attachment portions opposed to each other with the operation element therebetween; and an attachment path setting member that is provided inside the operation portion and leads the plurality of pulling members that are wound around the pulley and led out, to the attachment portions.
