[0067] The present application relates to a system and method for administering a fixed predetermined dose of a second medicament (secondary drug composition) and a possibly variable dose of a first medicament (primary drug composition) through a single output or drug dispense interface. The fixed dose of the second medicament is automatically determined by the user setting the dose of the primary medicament. This fixed dose of the second medicament is preferably a single dose. In a preferred arrangement, the drug dispense interface comprises a needle cannula (hollow needle). The system can include a needle guard that can be locked after the medicated module has been disconnected from the drug delivery device or removed from the injection site. The present application also allows the user to prime the injection needle with the priming fluid contained within the drug delivery device.

Abstract

A medicated module attachable to a drug delivery device comprising a connecting body configured for attachment to the drug delivery device. A first needle held within a first needle hub of the connecting body and a second needle fixed within a second needle hub of the connecting body. A recess within the connecting body defining a reservoir. The reservoir containing at least one dose of a medicament and configured for fluid communication with the first needle. The connecting body further comprises a lockout feature that prevents the medicated module from being reconnected to the drug delivery device after the medicated module has been connected to the drug delivery device a first time.

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to medical devices and methods for delivering at least two pharmaceutical agents from separate reservoirs using a device having only a single dose setting mechanism and a single dispense interface. More specifically, the present application applies to a medicated module that includes an interlock feature that prevents a second reconnection of the medicated module to a drug delivery device. The medicated module may provide the user with the option to prime the device prior to the injection step. A single delivery program initiated by the user results in delivery to the patient of a non-user-settable dose of the second drug agent and a variable set dose of the first drug agent.
