Needle tip guard for percutaneous entry needles

A needle tip protective device for use with percutaneous entry needles. In one embodiment, the needle tip protective device includes a needle guard slidably mounted on a hypodermic needle, the latter having a needle tip located at the distal end thereof, and a change of profile formed medially there along. The needle guard is movable along the hypodermic needle and engageable with the change in profile formed thereon. The engagement with the change in profile is configured to correspond with the ability of the needle trap to entrap the needle tip once the needle trap has advanced the sufficient distance distally along the hypodermic needle. In further refinements, the needle trap may be biased toward the distal needle tip of the needle.

Automatic injection and retraction devices for use with pre-filled syringe cartridges

An automatic injection and retraction device having a longitudinal axis is provided that includes an injection assembly, a retraction assembly, and a pre-filled syringe cartridge. The injection assembly has an activation-prevention feature moveable between an on position and an off position. The retraction assembly has a needle guard that is removable in a direction along the longitudinal axis upon application of a removal force. The pre-filled syringe cartridge has a hypodermic needle with a needle sheath thereon. The retraction and injection assemblies are secured to one another so that the pre-filled syringe cartridge is in the retraction assembly with the needle sheath secured to the needle guard. The retraction and injection assemblies are configured so that, upon application of a twisting torque to the injection and retraction assemblies, the activation-prevention feature moves from the on position to the off position simultaneous with applying the removal force to the needle guard.

Spring clip safety IV catheter

A safety IV catheter includes a unitary, resilient needle guard received in a catheter hub. The needle guard includes a proximal arm or wall that includes an opening through which a needle passes for axial movement. When the needle is retracted from the catheter, it releases the force that had previously prevented movement of the needle guard within the catheter hub. This in turn causes the needle guard to snap into a position in which it is clamped onto the needle shaft and in which its distal wall blocks access to the needle tip. In this condition, the spring needle guard and needle can be removed from the catheter hub. A slot or crimp may be formed in the needle shaft that engages with the needle guard after the protected needle and needle guard are removed from the catheter hub, thereby to prevent removal of the protected needle from the needle guard.

Position guide for a needle guard

A device for covering and protecting a syringe needle after a syringe procedure includes a needle guard component, a base member component and a spring. The needle guard and base member components of the device are both formed with cylindrical shaped portions that are arranged coaxially. The base member is affixable to the syringe with the spring positioned between the needle guard and base member components to urge the components in opposite axial directions. One component is formed with a plug that extends into a guide mechanism formed on the other component. The guide mechanism includes a locking cutout, an axially aligned linear track and a deflectable arm. The arm deflects to allow linear plug movement during retraction of the needle guard over the needle and redirects the plug to the locking cutout when the needle guard moves to re-cover the needle.

Catheter syringe conveyor with a needle guard housing

A catheter syringe conveyor with a needle guard housing is adapted for facilitating the insertion of a catheter into a targeted blood vessel. A catheter syringe is slidably situated within the slot of housing, allowing the technician to maneuver the syringe up and down within the housing. A blood vessel stabilizer, having a pair of stabilizer fingers, is attached to the bottom of the housing and holds the blood vessel in place while the syringe is maneuvered within the stabilized housing. After the blood vessel is penetrated by the needle of the syringe, the technician maneuvers a catheter pusher to lower the catheter into the blood vessel. After the catheter is inserted, the technician is able to slide the syringe back up within the housing, to move the needle within the protective walls of the housing for safety; a syringe lock holds the syringe there for safekeeping

Syringe with reciprocating, leak-proof needle guard

A leak proof safety shield / guard for a syringe is herein disclosed. The shield / guard provides for not only protection of the syringe from a damage and abuse in the storage and handling, but also protects the health care professional from contact with the used needle and any of the tissues or fluids adherent thereto. Moreover, any and all fluids that are initially contained within the syringe, or subsequently collected from a patient, are also isolated from inadvertent discharge or loss. This device achieves such objectives by providing a sealed protective guard that retains its integrity subsequent to use of the syringe. Additional enhancements to the device of this invention include a locking mechanism that prevents re-use of the syringe; and, additionally causes the syringe to be rendered physically inoperative.

Needle guard

A needle guard for an insertion device generally used with an infusion set. The needle of the insertion device is commonly adapted for puncturing at one end and including at the opposite end a hub. The needle guard includes an opening adapted to receive the insertion device and a locking mechanism adapted to secure the insertion device in the needle guard. By pushing the needle hub into the needle guard for disposal, barbs on the needle hub will mate with undercuts on the inside of the needle guard and secure the needle hub in a position where the needle is covered, preventing unintended contact with the needle.

Needle guard and assembly

Needle guards are disclosed for use with needle assemblies comprising a needle hub that joins a flexible trailing tube to a medical needle, the normally open front ends of the guards being closeable after a needle and hub have been pulled therein by the trailing tube. In one example (FIG. 4c), a guard (10) has a stiff upper sidewall (24a) of an inverted U-shape and a flexible lower sidewall (26b) that fits inside the upper sidewall and is resiliently biased to bring its front end (31) into contact with the front end (30) of upper sidewall (24b) so as to close the front aperture of the guard after the needle assembly (16) has been withdrawn into the guard. The lower sidewall (26b) can be locked or clipped into the upper sidewall (24b) by pressing lower sidewall passed catches (72). In this way, the needle is completely and safely enclosed after use to reduce the danger of needle-stick injury and blood-splash contamination.

Medicated module with user selection

A medicated module (4) for an injection system to co-deliver at least two medicaments is disclosed where a primary delivery device containing a primary medicament accepts a medicated module (4) containing a single dose of a secondary medicament and where both medicaments are delivered through a hollow needle (3). The medicated module (4) is user selectable so that it will deliver a priming dose of a primary medicament or both the primary and secondary medicaments. The module (4) also contains a needle guard (42) that locks after dose delivery. The needle guard (42) prevents accidental needle sticks before and after an injection. A locking collar (66) rotates during use as an inner protrusion (12) follows three paths (14, 15, 16) of a track (13) located on the outer surface of a body housing (10). When the inner facing protrusion (12) is in the third path (16), it encounters a hard stop and a rotational bias that locks the guard (42) from further retraction and thus covers the sharp distal end of the needle (3).
