Pen needle and safety shield system

A safety shield system for a needle cannula of a pen needle injector or similar device, wherein a safety shield may be retracted from a first position enclosing the needle cannula to a second position exposing the needle cannula for injection. The safety shield system permits retraction of the safety shield during use, but extends the shield enclosing the needle cannula in a locked position following use. The shield system is utilized with a pen needle injector having a double-ended needle cannula mounted in a hub member received on an open end of the pen needle injector. The assembly is disposed of by removing the system and storing the assembly in the cup-shaped top cap enclosing the exposed end of the needle cannula within the cap. The top cap includes internal radial ribs preventing retraction of the shield prior to removing the top cap preventing inadvertently piercing the top cap during assembly. In addition, a bottom cap may be interlocked to the top cap to completely encompass the needle cannula, thereby ensuring safe disposal of the assembly.

Automatic injection and retraction devices for use with pre-filled syringe cartridges

An automatic injection and retraction device having a longitudinal axis is provided that includes an injection assembly, a retraction assembly, and a pre-filled syringe cartridge. The injection assembly has an activation-prevention feature moveable between an on position and an off position. The retraction assembly has a needle guard that is removable in a direction along the longitudinal axis upon application of a removal force. The pre-filled syringe cartridge has a hypodermic needle with a needle sheath thereon. The retraction and injection assemblies are secured to one another so that the pre-filled syringe cartridge is in the retraction assembly with the needle sheath secured to the needle guard. The retraction and injection assemblies are configured so that, upon application of a twisting torque to the injection and retraction assemblies, the activation-prevention feature moves from the on position to the off position simultaneous with applying the removal force to the needle guard.

Medical devices, and in particular implantable medical devices, may be coated to minimize or substantially eliminate a biological organism's reaction to the introduction of the medical device to the organism or to treat a particular condition. A dip coating process is utilized to minimize waste. An aqueous latex polymeric emulsion is utilized to coat any medical device to a desired thickness by allowing for successive dipping and drying cycles. In addition, aqueous latex polymeric emulsions pose less of a chance of the bridging phenomenon associated with organic solvent based polymers.

A container holds at least one surgical implement, has a lock mechanism, and has a signature label that impedes access to the surgical implement until the correct surgical site is confirmed. A method of using the container includes the steps of confirming the correct surgical site, signing the label and removing it from the container, placing the label in the medical record, unlocking the container, removing the implement, and beginning the surgery, wherein the surgical team is forced to pause to confirm the correct surgical site before starting the surgery. Preferably, the container top may be removed and placed between the surgeon and surgical technician to define a no-hands “neutral zone” to avoid being stuck by the sharps. Also, the container preferably includes compartments for storing used sharps and / or a local anesthetic-loaded syringe, and the top may be replaced and secured for safely disposing of the sharps after the surgery.

Needle guard

A needle guard for an insertion device generally used with an infusion set. The needle of the insertion device is commonly adapted for puncturing at one end and including at the opposite end a hub. The needle guard includes an opening adapted to receive the insertion device and a locking mechanism adapted to secure the insertion device in the needle guard. By pushing the needle hub into the needle guard for disposal, barbs on the needle hub will mate with undercuts on the inside of the needle guard and secure the needle hub in a position where the needle is covered, preventing unintended contact with the needle.

Drug release (delivery system)

An electrically addressable release pad for use in a burst electrode drug release (delivery) system. The pad useable in this system comprises a polymer, preferably polypyrrole, which surrounds medicine. Once a section of the polymer receives an electrochemical potential sent from an electrode contained within the pad, a defined dose of medicine contained therein is released. The pad is designed to be worn by a patient, so that when the medication is released, its administered to the patient, without the patient having to do anything. The electrode typically can be a burst electrode, one with a unique electrical signature. The electrode can be triggered from a remote source.

Cannula-tip shielding mechanism

A needle tip shielding mechanism is described herein. The shielding mechanism comprises an outer housing, an inner housing, and a needle having a needle feature. Generally, the outer housing comprises at least one adapter-interlock feature. Moreover, the inner housing comprises a needle-feature capture mechanism, such as a washer feature, and a needle-tip capture mechanism, such as duckbilled tip barrier. In some cases, the inner housing is slidably moveable within the outer housing. In such cases, the inner housing is movable between a first position that biases the adapter-interlock feature into an engaged position and a second position that allows the adapter-interlock feature to move to an unengaged position. This ability to bias the interlock feature in the engaged position and to allow the interlock feature to move to the unengaged position allows the shielding mechanism to be selectively coupled to and released from an interlock-feature mating component within a catheter adapter.

Ecologically sensitive mud-gas containment system

This invention relates to an ecologically and environmentally friendly mud-gas containment system. Specifically, this invention relates to a mobile device that is capable of receiving waste gas and, in emergency situations, a volume of a mud-gas mixture from a drilling operation. The waste gas is communicated to a removable flare stack through a vent line. The mud-gas is received at a containment vessel. The impact of the mud-gas within the containment vessel separates the mud-gas into mud and waste gas. The mud is collected for recycling and / or environmentally sensitive disposal. The waste gas from the vessel is communicated to the flare stack. Separate removal ports and conduits are used to remove any residual mud or mud-gas from the vent line and / or containment vessel. Excess mud or mud-gas is communicated to an overflow catch tank for removal. The entire assembly is mounted on a mobile skid sized for highway transportation.
