[0037] Agricultural planter 10 in figure 1 Shown as a row crop planter. The planter 10 has a central frame 12 on which a plurality of individual planting units 14 are installed. The planter 10 has a front-rear direction shown by arrow 15 and a lateral direction shown by arrow 17. Each seeding unit 14 is connected to the central frame 12 by a parallel coupling mechanism 16 so that a single seeding unit 14 can move up and down relative to the frame 12 to a restricted degree. Abstract

A sowing unit for a planter comprising a seed meter and a delivery system having a metering member that sequentially moves seeds along a first path to a release position where the seeds move in a first direction The delivery system is adapted to take seed from the metering member at said release position and move the seed from the seed meter to a discharge position adjacent a seed furrow formed in the soil below the planter. The delivery system moves the seed in a second direction along a second path at the release position. A blocking member positioned adjacent to the first path immediately prior to the release position prevents movement of the seed in the second direction until the seed passes the blocking member.
