Embodiment Construction

[0026] Certain aspects and features of the invention relate to a non-duplexer isolation subsystem for a DAS. According to some aspects, the non-duplexer isolation subsystem is capable of isolating uplink signals from downlink signals and their derivatives passing through uplink communication paths in the system, eliminating the need for a duplexer in the DAS.

[0027] In some aspects, a non-duplexer isolation subsystem can include one or more configurable filters. A configurable filter may be located in a downlink communication path and / or an uplink communication path. Configurable filters block or attenuate spurious signals that leak into or reside in the uplink communication path. In some aspects, configurable filters are configured by one or more mechanical steps of selecting a frequency response for each filter. In other aspects, the configurable filter is electronically configured by a control signal.

Abstract

Certain and certain aspects of the invention relate to a distributed antenna system having a downlink communication path, an uplink communication path, and a non-duplexer isolation subsystem. A downlink communication path can communicatively couple the transmit antenna to the base station. An uplink communication path can communicatively couple the receive antenna to the base station. In one aspect, the non-duplexer isolation subsystem can be electronically configured to isolate uplink signals from downlink signals traversing the uplink communication path. In another aspect, the non-duplexer isolation subsystem can be configurable in one or more mechanical steps of selected frequency response. In another aspect, the non-duplexer isolation subsystem can include an active suppression subsystem.

Description

[0001] related application [0002] This application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 61 / 492077, filed July 1, 2011, and entitled "Broadband Distributed Antenna System With Non-Duplexer Isolation Subsystem," the contents of which Incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0003] The present invention relates generally to communications, and more particularly (though not necessarily exclusively) to isolation of uplink and downlink communication paths using a non-duplexer isolator subsystem in a distributed antenna system. Background technique [0004] A distributed antenna system ("DAS") can be used to extend the coverage of a cellular communication system. For example, DAS is able to extend coverage within buildings, in tunnels, within conventional low-signal coverage areas, or areas obstructed by terrain features. [0005] A DAS can include one or more master units that communicate with an operator's system, such as a base station transc...
