Abstract

The present disclosure is directed, in one embodiment, to a protective insert for a protective case. The protective insert comprises a longitudinal body comprising opposing front and back surfaces and at least one longitudinal protective element disposed at the front surface. The protective element can include an upper surface and a sidewall extending downwardly from the upper surface. A plurality of channels can be defined in the at least one protective element, and each of the channels can include a sidewall extending downwardly from the upper surface. A plurality of cushioning regions can be defined by the plurality of perpendicular channels, disposed in the at least one protective element.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to US Provisional Application Serial No. 61 / 549,715, filed October 20, 2011, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. technical field [0003] The present disclosure relates to a flexible impact protective insert for a case, and to a case incorporating the same. Background technique [0004] "Laptop" and "notebook" portable electronic devices have a small size and reduced weight for ease of movement. Manufacturers of devices strive to provide the smallest and lightest possible devices. Unfortunately, it is difficult to manufacture small, lightweight laptop computers that are strong enough to withstand being dropped or otherwise subjected to impact loads. The small size of existing laptop computers leaves little or no interior space for shock absorbing material that protects the delicate operating parts of the computer, such as the LCD screen, hard drive, various elec...
