Therefore, the current trend is to use metallic systems. Metal systems, however, are designed to be extra safe for European standards. Disclosed are lightweight energy absorbing components (eg, hybrid plastic-metal energy absorbing systems) that can be used in several combinations to meet various global regulations. In other words, the energy absorbing assemblies of the present disclosure can be designed to meet desired criteria. A different design is not required. This system can reduce manufacturing costs because one design can be used to meet each standard. In other words, energy absorbing components can be tuned and used in several combinations to meet global damage tolerance regulations and regulatory standards for various global platforms.
