Abstract

An embodiment of the invention discloses a method capable of supporting online playing and equipment thereof. The method comprises the steps of: playing a request of a first media file by a receiving terminal; determining whether the first media file is a virtual file according to description information in the first media file; if yes, acquiring a pre-stored network address which corresponds with the first media file; establishing a network connection; downloading a second media file which corresponds with the first media file according to the network address; and transmitting the downloaded second media file to the terminal for making the terminal play the downloaded second media file. According to the method provided by the embodiment of the invention, through storing a virtual file and a network address which corresponds with the virtual file, an entity file which corresponds with the virtual file can be obtained in real time according to the network address when a requires for playing the virtual file by the terminal is received, thereby supporting online playing. The method of the invention overcomes restriction by a storage space of peripheral equipment of USB, etc., and satisfies requirement of a user for mass media streams.
