Abstract

Aspects of a protection circuit and method are disclosed. A transmit circuit generates a powered transmit signal for powering the transmit antenna to generate a wireless field sufficient to wirelessly charge the device. A detection circuit senses the strength of the electromagnetic field received by the transmit antenna, and is further configured to generate a sensed signal indicative of the strength of the electromagnetic field received by the transmit antenna. A power control circuit controls the switch based at least in part on the sensed signal. The power control circuit may attenuate electrical coupling between the transmit antenna and the transmit circuit such that the received electromagnetic field is inhibited from damaging the transmit antenna or the transmit circuit.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to wireless power. More specifically, the present invention relates to protecting a power transmitter from damage caused by proximity to a second transmitter. Background technique [0002] An increasing number and variety of electronic devices are powered by rechargeable battery packs. Such devices include mobile phones, portable music players, laptop computers, tablet computers, computer peripherals, communication devices (eg, Bluetooth devices), digital cameras, hearing aids, and the like. While battery technology has improved, battery-powered electronic devices increasingly require and consume greater amounts of power, and thus often require recharging. Rechargeable devices are often charged via a wired connection through a cable or other similar connector that is physically connected to a power supply. Cables and similar connectors can sometimes be inconvenient or cumbersome, among other disadvantages. A ...
