Embodiment Construction

[0022] The subject matter described herein provides a laminated article to seal openings in packaging for high alcohol content products. The layered article has the ability to reclose the package greater than about 50 times and up to about 150 times. The laminated article also provides a tamper evident feature. A related container for high alcohol content products incorporating a sealed laminated article is also provided.

[0023] "Alcohol" means an organic compound in which a hydroxyl functional group (-OH) is bonded to a carbon atom. Specifically, the carbon atom should be saturated with single bonds to three other atoms. These compounds include monohydric alcohols such as isopropanol, methanol, ethanol, propanol, butanol, etc.; polyalcohols such as ethylene glycol, glycerol, erythritol, xylitol, sorbitol, mannitol, etc.; saturated fatty alcohols such as allyl alcohol, geraniol, propargyl alcohol, and the like; and alicyclic alcohols such as inositol, menthol, and the lik...

Abstract

A container (33) for a product with a high alcohol content comprising a package (32) having an opening (22) sealed by a layered article (1) having a facestock (4), a reclosing adhesive (5) . A longitudinally oriented film (6) and a sealing adhesive (7) having an adhesive strength that is not significantly reduced by the product. The sealing adhesive (7) provides a good long term seal to the package which is resistant to degradation from alcohol. The longitudinally oriented film (6) provides an alcohol barrier between the product and the reclosing adhesive (5). When opened, the film tears cleanly and straightly in the machine direction so that a part of the film remains in contact with the package and another part of the film is pulled away from the package (32) to expose the opening (22). The reclosing adhesive provides resealability to the laminate after initial opening of the package. The clean, straight tear also provides a tamper-evident feature to the package.

Description

technical field [0001] The present subject matter relates to layered adhesive articles for use as reclosable sealed labels. Laminar articles are advantageously used for sealing packages containing wet products with high alcohol content. Laminar articles are also useful as tamper evident seal labels. The subject matter also relates to packaging incorporating layered articles. Background technique [0002] A reclosable adhesive laminate, also known as a sealable label, is a typical adhesive functional application that requires performance characteristics that enable the sealed label to be removed and resealed to the package, eg, 1 to 150 times. Typically, the number of items contained in the package is related to the number of reclosures required. If a single use / serve product is provided in a package, the resealability of the layered article may only need to provide 1 to 3 reseals. This case is illustrative of a resealable container for drying pasta, bread, candy, and the...
