Embodiment Construction

[0024] When used in electronic systems designed to transmit data at very high rates, conventional physical connections between devices or circuits exhibit various unfavorable characteristics that result in a reduction in signal integrity and the corresponding system instability. By using wireless communication systems such as those disclosed in U.S. Patent No. 5,621,913 and U.S. Patent No. 12 / 655,041 (these disclosures, and all other disclosures referenced herein, are hereby incorporated by reference in their entirety for all purposes), it is possible to Remove the physical connection.

[0025] However, such wireless systems cannot meet the growing demand for high-bandwidth modular and portable memory devices. To ensure the security and stability of communications between and within these devices, Extremely High Frequency (EHF) communication units may be used in a variety of new and useful applications.

[0026] The EHF communication unit may include one or more EHF communic...

Abstract

Circuit connectors for establishing EHF communication include a receiver configured to receive a transmitted EHF electromagnetic signal, and an output circuit coupled to the receiver. The output circuit has two states of operation that correspond to enabling a signal output and disabling the signal output. The output circuit is also configured to change its state of operation responsive to a state of a control signal, and a controller is coupled to the receiver and configured to produce the control signal. The control signal has two states that correspond to a first condition when the received signal exceeds a first threshold and a second condition when the received signal is less than a second threshold.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to devices, systems and methods for EHF communications, and more particularly to establishing and terminating EHF electromagnetic connections. Background technique [0002] Contact bounce or chatter is the rapid switching of electrical current, or flicker, that can occur when a mechanical switch or relay closes. It can occur when the electrical contacts in the switch have sufficient spring or elasticity. When the electrical contacts in a switch come into contact with each other, they spring back slightly, almost like a jerk, before establishing steady, continuous contact. The result is not the desired instantaneous transition from zero to full current, but an initial rapid current oscillation. figure 1 An exemplary plot showing an example of contact bounce exhibited by a mechanical switch is shown. [0003] Contactless connectors, such as those described in U.S. Patent Application Serial No. 13 / 427,576 (hereby...
