Abstract

The invention discloses a transmission and a control method thereof. When the transmission range selector is in the Park position, the controller engages a plurality of transmission shift elements to place the transmission in a locked state. In the locked state, both the transmission output shaft and the turbine shaft are held against rotation by the shift element. To shift from Park to Drive, the controller releases one of the shift elements to place the transmission in a first gear state. To shift from Park to Reverse, the controller releases a different one of the shift elements to place the transmission in a shift state. The controller may wait until the driver releases the brake pedal to release the shift element.
