Abstract

A usage monitoring method, apparatus and system, which relate to the field of communications and solve the problem that the current solution of implementing usage monitoring through an OCS does not support usage monitoring for a Sponsored Service. The method comprises: a home PCRF provides to an OCS a Policy Counter Id corresponding to Sponsored Data Connectivity and a Total Usage Threshold corresponding to the Sponsored Data Connectivity, to be used by the OCS for usage monitoring; and the home PCRF receives the Policy Counter Id, the status of the Policy Counter and accumulated usage that are sent by the OCS. The technical scheme provided in embodiments of the present invention is applicable to a PCC architecture and implements usage monitoring for a Sponsored Service.
