Abstract

An implantable cardiac monitoring device comprising: a first arm and a second arm pivotally attached to each other; the device's electronic circuitry and associated power supply are hermetically sealed within a housing formed by one of the arms . The first electrode is carried by the first arm, the second electrode is carried by the second arm, and the third electrode is carried by one of the two arms. The device also includes a tether element, preferably a strut, pivotally attached between the arms and movable between a collapsed state and an expanded state. The device, in a relatively compact form, can be inserted through a relatively small incision into the subcutaneous tissue when the struts are in the folded state, after which the struts are moved to an expanded state in which the ends of the arms are spaced apart from each other and are supported by the struts, And the three electrodes form a dual sensing vector.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to medical devices, systems and methods, and more particularly, to those providing subcutaneously implanted sensing vectors for cardiac monitoring. Background technique [0002] Various electrode array configurations known in the art are useful in monitoring the electrical activity of the heart by generating an electrocardiogram (ECG), which characterizes the systolic and diastolic cycles of the myocardium as cardiomyocytes depolarize and then repolarize. Those skilled in the art are familiar with limb leads and chest leads, which are attached to the patient's skin to generate a far-field ECG, and the electrode arrays included in subcutaneously implantable cardiac monitoring devices and systems for the same purpose. [0003] Figure 1A is a schematic diagram illustrating an array of subcutaneously implanted cardiac monitoring electrodes 110 configured to form a pair of sensing vectors. Figure 1B Portions of two example E...
